Local Businesses give Community Association a Life line……..
Following the article in the paper regarding the threatened closure of Gosport Community Association/Thorngate Halls we are pleased to announce that two local businesses have come to our aid.
Chris Bullimore of Bullimore Flat Roofing, Gosport has offered his companies services “free of charge” to make interim repairs to the flat roof. This will give us the life line we need and the breathing space – to carry out our massive fundraising campaign to raise monies to ensure the future of the Association and Thorngate Halls.
Chris is very sympathetic towards the needs of the Gosport community in ensuring the Associations future – he also has his own recollections of attending functions at our Centre and recognises the important part it plays in peoples lives.
Support has also been offered by Roof Warehouse PLC located in Portchester. Like Chris, their Manager Martin Robinson is fully aware of the work the charity does and that closure of the Centre would leave many disadvantaged Groups without a meeting place. This would include the Blind and Stoke Club and the Pre-school and Day Centre to name but a few– the list is endless. I am pleased to report that Roof Warehouse PLC have kindly offered to donate all the roofing felt for the repair work and for these we are extremely grateful.
Myself and the Officers of the Association appreciate the support of Bullimores Flat Roofing and Roof Warehouse PLC and are gratified that there are people/businesses in the local area that are sympathetic towards the needs of charitable organisations such as ourselves.
The work will be carried out in the next two months. However we still have a long way to go before we meet our goal. Included on our long list are upgrading of electrics, repairs and replacement of windows, doors and wood work, updating of our Theatre stage facilities and of course the eventual replacement of the roof and this is just for starters.
We have received many encouraging comments from statutory organisations in the Borough giving their full support and commitment to ensuring the future of the Community Association. Hopefully the people of Gosport will also support their Association by not only contributing to our Building Fund but also attending our Festival of Yesteryear fundraising events.
