Many a visitor to Bury House on a Friday evening may have wondered what “Lee Bees is, are or were - and many also have suggested a ribald answer! But to set minds at rest and to blow our own trumpet a little, the name was coined about 35 Years ago when a small club consisting of six members was formed to fly model aircraft at RNAS Lee on Solent.

Powered models make a buzzing sound. hence the name. The Club has enjoyed the privilege of flying at this excellent airfield ever since and now stands at over 50 members, young, old, male and female.

For a considerable number of years the Club has enjoyed the use of Bury House for its winter meetings of both a technical and social nature. The Club meets on alternate Friday evenings from October to May and has a varied programme to “teach-ins” covering most aspects of model and full size aviation culminating in a model display of the winter projects. So if you see someone trying to edge sideways through the door carrying a quarter size spitfire, please make way or follow on to see what is all about.

Throughout the year the Club flies regularly at Lee-on-Solent. The Club has a wide programme of Club competitions for expert and novice alike, plus training sessions for beginners. Displays at local fetes and shows are also a feature. For example the Clubs static and flying display of radio controlled models at Modelville each year has always been considered one of the highlights of the Public Display Calendar.
